Professor Mriganka Sur and the Sur Lab are committed to creating a diverse and welcoming, intellectually-rich and engaging atmosphere where we can explore a range of topics in neuroscience.
In addition to pursuing our scientific goals, we strive to build and maintain an environment that welcomes, nurtures and adequately prepares all members to pursue their careers. Historically and presently, the Sur Lab has proudly consisted of people from a variety of races, socio-economic backgrounds, educations, and nationalities.
We aim to advance the mission and vision of the Institute Community and Equity Office and MIT’s Strategic Action Plan for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion through emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion in our lab culture, by seeking guidance and working closely with the Community of Practice (DEI&J), by hosting students through the MIT Summer Research Program (MSRP), which provides research opportunities in our lab for underrepresented and underserved students interested in pursuing a career in academia, and by honoring diversity in our recruitment of researchers, students and staff.
For all positions, people from underrepresented (Black/African-American, Native/Indigenous, Mexican-American, Puerto-Rican) or underserved (e.g. women, low socio-economic background, first-generation, rural) backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
As we continue our efforts to realize our goal of empowering every researcher to succeed in their scientific development in a diverse, welcoming and inclusive environment, we eagerly solicit any inquiries, suggestions, or other feedback you may have. These can be addressed directly to Professor Sur, or to the Sur Lab’s Community of Practice (DEI&J BCS Community) representative, K. Guadalupe Cruz.
